Why does sci-fi do this?

Rather than experiencing real dread many writers think: Wow that would really hurt or wow that would surely kill me.
So we get pew-pew instead of nano technology.
It's easier to wrap your head around pew-pew. Both for the lazy writer and the reader.
The German movie Das Boot got a lot of credit because Wolfgang Petersen actually figured out how a submarine fucking works and it's not filled with an error every five minutes. Ad to that, that the soldiers are praising the idea of the Weltmacht more than Hitler like a bunch of niggers would.

In War of the Worlds they were also draining people of blood, and it didn't seem painless, so I dont see what you're talking about.

War of the Worlds was a failed terraformation.
Failed alien scientific research or perhaps bureaucracy saved our asses.

There's a theory that the aliens had scrubbed the planet clean before and got cocky, or that they hadn't dealt with germs in so long that they were over confident. It's pretty stupid either way, but the tech was cool.

I want to know why the aliens in Signs who are deathly allergic to water thought it was a good Idea to scamper around naked on a planet that's 70% water where water routinely falls from the sky.

Imagine if humans found a planet that's 70% hydrochloric acid and the captain was like: "no spacesuits for this time boys! We're gonna freeball this one!"

I mean is pretty bad when the aliens in Battleship which need I remind you is a movie based on a Hasbro board game are more sensible. "Going to a planet where the sun hurts our eyes? Better tint the windows."
