So what's new in your life lately? Watching/reading anything interesting?

>>14319 I guess the main thing is that I've been spending tons of time visiting/helping my family, so much so that I've spent more time there than at my own place since the holidays last year. And I'll be leaving again on Sunday.
I mostly watch/listen to youtube commentaries and reviews. and in my spare time I've been playing a shitty Star Trek mobile game.
What about you? still reading every day?

Ah that's quite wholesome that you're so close to them. Have you been helping them with any projects or anything exciting? Also are you still a taxi/Uber driver?
I've been rewatching some Star Trek Voyager. Just a few of the more cozy episodes. I've been listening to Evola's Fascism Viewed from the right and read his book Mystery of the Holy Grail.
Last novel I finished was The Beetle.

>>14321 It's mostly support. My step-dad is an invalid, so my mom often needs help with getting him around, or taking care of him so that she can go do other important things on her own, or just running errands for them. Three hour round trip drives are the norm while I'm there. And when we have spare time, then I help with other projects that my mom can't do on her own - light carpentry, installations, electrical work, plumbing, etc. And lots of cleaning and moving things around.
I've been taking a break from Uber for about half a year. The money is alright, but dealing with Uber's mind games is soul crushing. I've got a business partner here in town, and we're working toward several long-term IT projects.

The book is about an Egyptian cultist called the beetle. He's able to mesmerise people and have them undertake his will, as well as giving them certain psychic powers. He uses different people in the book to seek vengeance upon someone in London who has previously escaped the cult.
The book was written in 1897. It was being described on Wikipedia as somewhat similar to Dracula but far more popular at the time so I got curious.
Do you have any plans for the weekend?
Also thanks for the animation. Almost has a similar style to the Original Series cartoon.

Ah spending Easter with your family then. Was just looking at what whisky I might be getting for Easter. Thinking of getting a bottle of Singleton 12 years, mainly because it's £20 off. It seems like a half decent Speyside and I can't fork over the money for a Glenglassaugh right now.

Are you a Scotch connoisseur? I don't know if I've ever had one. Do you prefer single malt?
Jefferson's Ocean is fantastic, but it's a bit pricey for me. If I'm going to buy whiskey, I normally get honey whiskey.

>>14362
I got really into it a year ago. A bottle usually lasts me at least a month so it isn't as expensive of a hobby as it sounds.
I've tried some blended whiskies and I'm not necessarily against them but I've preferred all of the single malts that I've tried.
My favourite single malts are Glenglassaugh Sandend, Glen Scotia Victoriana, and Glenfiddich 15.
I've decided to just head to the usual whisky shop I go to tomorrow. If they don't have any good deals I'm going to get a bottle of mead instead.
I've only tried bourbon once but it was literally something like 61% so I don't know if it was a good example of a bourbon. It tastes like really strong alcohol, not much else.
Are there any other honey ones you like?

Have you ever tried Sheep Dip? That's the only Scotch I know anything about.
Yeah some bourbon tastes awful and is really just meant to get you drunk ASAP. But the Jefferson's Ocean I've had is incredibly smooth.
Usually I go with the Jim Beam Honey - good taste at moderate price. Jack Daniel's Tennessee Honey is also good but slightly more expensive. Evan Williams Honey is cheaper and not quite as flavorful, but not bad on its own.

It's a university Chaplaincy so almost everyone there is my age which is nice.
I go to mass as well as the Sunday dinners and the two weekly informal discussion groups are held there. They have one in the afternoon that we usually finish off with my going to the pub, and then another in the evening that usually lasts a few hours.
Otherwise I just hang out there with friends. It's in a pretty central spot near the university and it's has a few different rooms for people to hang out in so it's an ideal place to just sit and talk or read at.
Are you near any decent nature spots then?

I live in a karst area, where there are lots of sinkholes and pretty extensive underwater caves, often miles long. In this area, some of the rivers go completely underground for part of their length. I don't know of any dry caves in the immediate area, though.

>>14458 For the underwater caves, you'd need to be a cave diver for that! pretty dangerous if you don't know what you're doing, and I'm not even certified for free diving. For the underground rivers, it's all murky water, zero visibility and practically impossible even if you were an expert. Some people have explored the isolated sinkhole caves; those are clear and relatively easy.
Above water, there are trails that follow the sinkholes that run along the underground rivers; one in particular is a pretty nice hike as long as you don't do it in August-October. The sinkholes have creative names like Mosquito Sink. The trails are pretty cool. And I've kayaked all of the river rises and river sinks where they go under and come up. The flow rates here aren't super high, so where they go under is just a large, very slow whirlpool. kind of creepy when you think about what's directly under you!

It's hard to describe, it's one of the strangest things I've ever come across. Someone, or a series of people literally put up walls and other basic buildings in the cave. If you look closely at that picture you can see that I'm looking out of a window that's made entirely from sticks and wood from the local forest.
Essentially some bushcrafters found that place at some point and had way too much time on their hands.
Also I didn't make that fire, there was an English guy there with me. He was also backpacking and he randomly ran into the cave like I did. He was there for about three weeks with me. I left soon after he did. No idea what happened to him.

I'd maybe add a pinned thread to the top of each board describing what they are (so mainly /void/ and /oat/ if it gets brought back). I'd also bring back oat as a more comfy board for serial threads and similar cozy little threads, with chat as the main active board for well, chatting, and void as a kind of /b/ board that's a bit more anarchic. I think you cover all of your main bases with those three and most of its already there.
I also miss a lot of the hidden boards, /trash/, /bed/, /tartarus/, etc.

Edit: Sorry I'm an absolute retard. I just realised that /void/ has a pinned thread as well. I should really sleep, I'm exhausted.

That being said I think the site as it is is pretty solid and genuinely greatly appreciate that it's still around.

>>14483 We've been in the middle of a long-term restructuring for several months. Not too long ago, there was a /pony/, an /oat/, and a /mu/, but /pony/ was only ever used by the CP spammer, /oat/ was dead, and /mu/ was basically dead. So it was discussed and decided we'd delete all 3 at least temporarily as part of the restructuring. And then once 4chan died, people come here "where's /pony/?".... well it was here when they weren't using it! So it got added back very hastily. You might enjoy /truthandjustice/. Bringing /oat/ back wouldn't be a bad idea if we had people to sustain it, which we haven't. It remains to be seen if that's going to change or not. And that's also why everything got moved to /chat/ and /void/. Adding more hidden boards is also a very real possibility.
It's nice seeing you here.

I was working on Easter. I am now pretty sick, but I'll get over it. Not to get too political, but antivaxxers are fuggin crazy. I used to get vaccines on the regular when I was in the military and didn't get sick for like 2 years straight, and now that I hit civilian life, this year alone I've been sick like every couple of months.

I've actually been thinking about re-enlisting. Now that I've gotten mentally and physically stronger that shit would be a cake walk.

Yeah I was beginning to think that they were a myth, ha ha. I saw my first Charles tenner roughly about a month or so ago.
Just looked up a picture of some of the new coins. Honestly I think it's a big improvement. I really like the 2p coin in particular. The £1 coin is bees.
I personally really dislike the old new coins, the ones that made up the coat of arms. I mean it was an interesting concept, but unless you were autistically putting them all together (and even then the shapes don't match up) they didn't really have much going for them. Just a random incomplete piece of a jigsaw puzzle.

So for the new coins all the animals on them are British and endangered so it's to raise awareness of them and nature as the king is into that kind of thing apparently?

Also the two pound one is interesting with the flowers as it's meant to represent all of the UK, it has a rose for England, a daffodil for Wales, a thistle for Scotland, and a shamrock for Northern Ireland which is neat

Well you see Dragons were often seen as being serpentine. And what are snakes in mythology? Agents of satan, and demons. I mean look at the garden of eden. What form did Satan take to trick Eve into eating the apple? A snake.

It's all about metaphors with mythology init

The form of a snake was taken because they're cute and perfect and beautiful and wonderful in every way.

#St.GeorgeWasARacist

An autist on /scaly/ suggests the descriptor of angels, incidentally, may also hold that serpentine root, suggesting the pre-fall form of serpents, as well as angels themselves, may have been draconic in actuality.

I've been somewhat reluctant to delve into his thoughts though to say more. The prospect, if I am honest, is rather sticky for me considering my idolization of them.
Should arguably be better, you might think, but... I've particular inclinations, values, virtues, and ideals at odds with commonly taught Christian values. Ideals derived from dragon kind.
Makes it a bit hairy for me.
