To give a little TL;DR, well, Arctic had to do some rough things to escape with Foeslayer. He really didn't want to betray his tribe. He didn't even really want to run off with her, exactly. He didn't have a choice, and that really fucked him up. There's a worse part, a secret Foeslayer's hiding from him but one he's doubtless aware of, too. But I'll leave that aside, in case you do read Runaway.
I'd also point out, he doesn't start these arguments.

And while he's a little louder and crueler at times than her... She's pretty damn nasty, herself. Especially when telling him he could always go back. She doesn't seem to realize what all he did for her, what he risked, what he threw away...
Well, despite it all, I do want to point out, he means it when he says he loves her. He's a dragon that'd do anything for her. Even though he doesn't trust her.
He doesn't deserve what happened to him. Whether at this point of the tale, or later.
