Both Costello and Huey were cynical. If I was to guess Costello is not cynical about his own ideas and interests at first. Then he realizes how moronic those ideas are and makes a song about them. Huey however is trying to shield himself from having moronic ideas in the first place. He looks upon something and frowns. Costello watches a detective movie with excitement but the movie doesn't interest Huey in the slightest. Is the cynicism we create more twisted than the cynicism that protects us? It varies depending of the outcome.
