What more is that people don't know exactly how they work. Yes I'll join this group because of this and that reason. It just doesn't work that way. If people needed help with the stigma they would probably be in too much denial to even join the group. If you know what's wrong with you, you're already halfway through the battle and there might not be a need for a therapy group either.
For me a therapy group is about discovering problems you might have through others.
The peer supporter was worried that I wouldn't be able to understand the problems that others have because they are not my problems. If I fail to find out why the police are always head over heels with me when there has been a crime in my vicinity due to the suspicion of others I can still gain something from the group by learning how to listen and understand other people's problems.
