The spell, while lethal, seems rather weird anyway. I mean, you can just walk out of its path and it'll miss. It should have at least a homing function.

Jk Rowling mentioned before that guns are actually more effective at killing, and that a muggle assassin with a gun could have easily killed volemort

The advantage with Avada Kadavara is that: you don't need bullets, just hatred. You can hit any part of their body, and it is instant death.

The disadvantages are that you typically have to announce it, unless casting silently, you have to use a wand, unless you could cast it wandless, and while it does arc out at pretty fast speeds, it is technically dodgeable.

Personally it is one of my favorite spells, along with Crucio, and Sectumsempra.

Sectumsepra is the laceration curse:

Blood spurted from Malfoy's face and chest as though he had been slashed with an invisible sword. He staggered backward and collapsed onto the waterlogged floor with a great splash, his wand falling from his limp right hand. Slipping and staggering, Harry got to his feet and plunged toward Malfoy, whose face was now shining scarlet, his white hands scrabbling at his blood-soaked chest.

Crucio is the torture curse (Which admittedly would be fun to use on people): Voldemort raised his wand, and before Harry could do anything to defend himself, before he could even move, he had been hit again by the Cruciatus curse. The pain was so intense, so all-consuming, that he no longer knew where he was... white-hot knives were piercing every inch of his skin, his head was surely going to burst with pain; he was screaming more loudly than he'd ever screamed in his life —

Personally, I can see many uses for both of these.

Actually, the more I think about it: a dark wizard that mastered Avada Kadavara wordless and wandless would be terrifying. Not just because they could kill someone outright without them really being able to react, but unless someone say the beam flying from your body, it would be completely untraceable.

God, I love spells.

Other than that any kind of 'area of effect' spell, like a wall of fire, would be best.

I like Avada Kedavra for meme reasons, as well as the practicality of it. (Bellatrix had the best line delivery with it.)

When you hit someone, you don't have to worry about them getting back up or trying to take you with them while they bleed out or are on fire or something. They're smoked.

However, I do not think of the curse as unforgivable. It is a painless and instant death. Think of the uses for Hospice.

Crucio is probably the most evil spell in the entire series. It doesn't kill or cause any actual physical harm directly, but it inflicts unimaginable pain.

I don't mean to sound like an edge lord, but there are more than a handful of people I could name off the top of my head that deserve a few moments of its touch.

Not to mention it would literally be the ultimate non lethal self defense weapon against someone who is trying to harm you.

Speaking of unforgivable curses; the final one. Imperio. The Mind Control curse.
